Things to consider when renting
Ideally everyone would like somewhere cheap as chips within a stones throw of their lecture theatre and a bigger stones throw from a public house.
- Most large city universities tend to be located in the centre of the cities and therefore finding accommodation close to your place of study can be expensive so a compromise is required.
- However cheaper accommodation further away from uni can lead to increased transportation costs.
I have made a list of important things you will want to consider when renting, to see them click here. Some of these may seem obvious but you need to remember them all.
Often people will be taken back by a really nice flat and after they have taken it realise that it has its drawbacks.
- Best thing to do if you are looking early is to go to the private accommodation office in your university.
- If you’re going to find a landlord looking specifically for a 9 month student lease beginning when term starts then you’re most likely going to find it there.
- But beware, if someone in the area is looking to rent exclusively to students then there is a good chance the property isn’t the prettiest.
- If it gets to the end of the third term and you have no where lined up for the next year then you are best off to start looking around late august unless you are willing to move in earlier, and pay for it! If you try looking any earlier then you will most likely be told to come back later anyway.
