According to the research by a leading student insurer, 1 in 3 students in the UK has been a target of crime in the last year. Most of these crimes have been burgularies, with possessions such as
iPods,
laptops and
mobile phones the items most at risk
Although only 7 universities were used for this research campaign, the statistics apply to the UKs students - with students in
London and the north of
England most at risk from crime.
Whats more, 60% of students did not report their burglaries to the police - with the Apple iPod and
iPod Nano being the items taken most.
The NUS endorsed student insurance providers Endsleigh have come up with a solution for students to combat losing all their money when victims of theft. Endsleigh offer room and
contents insurance for as little as £16 a year.
With freshers and new students unaware of the darker side of student life, many simply forget to take out student policies.
Now that students have possessions such as iPods, laptops, computers and mobile phones totaling over £2,000 – it is essential students protect them.
