Although only 7 universities were used for this research campaign, the statistics apply to the UKs students - with students in London and the north of England most at risk from crime.
Whats more, 60% of students did not report their burglaries to the police - with the Apple iPod and iPod Nano being the items taken most.
The NUS endorsed student insurance providers Endsleigh have come up with a solution for students to combat losing all their money when victims of theft. Endsleigh offer room and contents insurance for as little as £16 a year.
With freshers and new students unaware of the darker side of student life, many simply forget to take out student policies.
