The internet bank created by Co-op, smile, has just received the accolade of best online student account provider at the Your Money 2006 awards - proving student banking on the Internet is the way forward.
Students receive a massive free overdraft of up to £2,000 from year 1. smile also have advantages over other high street banks. Firstly, smile offer around 30 times more interest than other banks when students are in credit at 3.04% AER interest.
Furthermore, smile calculate interest daily and hence it is paid to you every month. Money can be moved from one smile account to another at the click of a mouse and they'll even transfer your existing account to smile for you.
smile also offer the stuff that student bank accounts already do, such as a smile debit and cashpoint card which you can use at over 32,000 Link machines, a smile chequebook, alerts if interest rates are changed and more.
All smile ask is that student bank account applicants are at least 17 and a half, UK citizens, UK residents, and in full time higher education at degree level or equivalent with full time student status and that students deposit at least £300, or an LEA grant cheque, or a student loan.
